UPPER CUMBERLAND WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION

Scholarship Program 2011

Recognizing the importance of youth to the Tennessee Walking Horse industry and the need to support and encourage the next generation, the Upper Cumberland Walking Horse Association announces that funds are to be allocated for educational scholarships(s). These scholarship(s) will financially assist qualified UCWHA members with their higher education expenses. It is possible that More than one scholarship will be presented in 2011. The amounts and the number of scholarships are to be determined by the UCWHA Board of Directors at some point prior to the scholarship award date. These scholarship funds may be used at any accredited junior college, university or trade school of the recipient’s choice. The scholarship(s) may be presented in the form of a Scholarship Certificate, which will be presented to the educational institution the recipient chooses to attend if the institution accommodates such a payment method. Otherwise, it will be presented in the form of the UCWHA check. UCWHA Scholarships will be awarded based on: academic achievement, extra curricular activities, involvement in equine activities and financial need.

Academic achievement is indicative of personal commitment, and will therefore, is strongly considered in the awarding of UCWHA Scholarships. Extra curricular activities also play a vital role in youth development and are to be a major consideration in the selection of UCWHA Scholarship recipients. The Association also seeks to promote the equine industry through encouraging youth to enter and be active in this industry and with the association, so, involvement in the equine industry and the Association will also be a consideration in the Scholarship Program. And while the needs shall not be a determining factor in selecting scholarship recipients, but a consideration. It should also be understood that members of the Association DO NOT select recipients. Selections are made by an independent group who have nothing to do with the Association or the horse industry.

Applicants must be a member of the UCWHA, either individually or part of a family membership for 2010 and 2011. Applicants cannot apply for the scholarships until their Junior year in High School and cannot be over twenty-four years of age as of January 1, 2011. Applicants who apply but do not receive a scholarship may subsequently re-apply. Scholarships are awarded only once per recipient.

Applications for the 2011 UCWHA Scholarships are enclosed. Applicants must complete each portion of the entry process and return the completed forms to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson at:

UCWHA Scholarship Application

UCWHA Scholarships are to be awarded on the basis of academic ability, leadership and extra curricular activities, involvement on equine and UCWHA activities and financial need. Scholarship recipients are eligible to use the award for undergraduate or graduate educational expenses at the college, junior college, university or trade school of their choice.
